The 2024/25 season may have only just ended, but already transfer rumours are gathering pace, with some significant moves expected in the coming weeks. This summer, there are some top-level players out of contract, and others expected to be on the move elsewhere.

Transfer work will have started at clubs months ago, but now moves will be made and interest firmed up. With a whole raft of top players likely to be changing clubs in the coming weeks and months, it will not only be interesting to see where they end up but also who replaces them for their current employers. Here’s the best of the transfer rumours so far. Let the transfer window begin.

    Kevin De Bruyne

After nine successful seasons with Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne will be plying his trade elsewhere next season. The latest odds on football betting sites suggest that his next stop will be recently crowned Serie A champions Napoli, but could that all change if Antonio Conte leaves the club in the coming weeks?

The Belgian midfielder is also thought to have a contract on the table from the Chicago Fire in the MLS. At 33, he still has plenty to offer, and both clubs would give him different types of challenges—either a fresh crack at Europe or a new adventure in the U.S.

    Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling is now a free agent after Arsenal confirmed his departure this week. He arrived from Chelsea in 2023 for around £25 million — a move that felt like a fresh start after his form dipped at Stamford Bridge. At the time, Arsenal were hoping his experience and direct style would add something different to their attack.

Things never quite clicked. Sterling had his moments, but he struggled to lock down a regular place under Mikel Arteta and found himself in and out of the squad. Now, with his contract up and no renewal on the table, he’s free to look for a new club. At 29, he still has plenty to offer — it’s just a matter of where he finds the right fit next.

    Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho looks set to leave Manchester United, and sources close to the player say Chelsea is now his preferred destination. With Ruben Amorim making it clear the Argentine winger isn’t part of his plans, Garnacho’s agents have already started exploring options. Arsenal had been linked earlier in the window, but Chelsea have now jumped to the front of the queue.

The 19-year-old had a mixed season — moments of brilliance, but also inconsistency and tension behind the scenes. A move to Stamford Bridge could offer a fresh start, especially with Chelsea continuing to bet on young, attacking talent. Whether United are willing to let him go to a direct rival remains to be seen, but it’s clear Garnacho has made his intentions known.

Arsenal have needed a prolific goalscorer for a number of seasons, and this summer is when they will finally solve their striker woes. A name on their shortlist is Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, who has 54 goals in 52 games this season in all competitions, firing his club to the Portuguese title.

The former Coventry City striker will be in high demand in the coming weeks and months as he explores the next step available. It’s no secret that Arsenal scouts have been keeping tabs on him for a while, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see a deal get wrapped up quickly once the window opens.

    Jack Grealish

If his lack of playing time and involvement in matchday squads is anything to go by, Jack Grealish looks to be heading towards the exit door at Manchester City. Formerly the most expensive player in Britain, Grealish has failed to deliver for Pep Guardiola’s team consistently and could be sold to fund new recruits.

He’s likely to have a lot of interest at home and abroad. Whether it’s a Premier League side taking a chance on him to reignite his form or a foreign club offering a change of scenery, one thing is clear—Grealish needs to play regular football again. The next few weeks will be crucial for his career.
