David Beckham’s name is stamped across football history—Manchester United, Real Madrid, England’s captain—but off the pitch, he’s spent nearly three decades building something just as enduring: his marriage to Victoria Beckham.

It hasn’t always been easy. From cheating allegations to transatlantic moves and constant public scrutiny, they’ve faced more than most couples. But through it all, they’ve managed to stay close, raise four children, and mark 26 years together.

The marriage story of David and Victoria Beckham clearly shows that respect and partnership are the first steps to having a purposeful connection and love, something that a professional matchmaking service like Kelleher International can help people find amidst today’s challenging dating scene.

Here’s how they did it—alongside the moments that defined both their relationship and David’s football career.

They met in 1997 inside the Manchester United players’ lounge. Victoria was a global pop star with the Spice Girls. David was climbing fast through the Premier League ranks.

By January 1998, they were engaged. Two months before their wedding, Victoria gave birth to their first son, Brooklyn, on March 4, 1999. Then on July 4, they married at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland—complete with golden thrones, fireworks, and full tabloid coverage.

At the time, Beckham was already one of England’s brightest talents. After debuting for Manchester United’s first team in 1992, he went on to win six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the 1999 treble—a feat no English club had achieved before.

By the time Romeo was born in 2002, he had become a global figure, known as much for his bending free kicks as for his off-pitch fame.

n 2003, David transferred to Real Madrid, joining the club’s famous “Galácticos” lineup. The Beckhams moved to Spain—Victoria putting her own career on pause to support his.

But in 2004, tabloids exploded with rumors of David’s alleged infidelity with Rebecca Loos. It marked a turning point. They later opened up about that period in Netflix’s Beckham documentary: long nights talking, shutting out the noise, and deciding what was worth saving.

“It was the hardest period,” Victoria admitted. David, too, said it nearly broke them—but they kept talking. That’s what pulled them through.

In 2005, son Cruz was born while David was still at Madrid. Two years later, he signed with LA Galaxy, moving the entire family to California. It was a controversial move at the time, but it helped grow football in the U.S., and it gave the Beckhams a chance to live a quieter life away from London’s tabloids.

During these years, David went on loan to AC Milan and later played for Paris Saint-Germain, where he retired in 2013. He ended his career with:

    • 700+ club appearances
    • 129 club goals
    • 115 caps for England
    • 17 international goals
    • Captaincy in three World Cups (1998, 2002, 2006)

Harper, their only daughter, was born in 2011, during his final season with LA Galaxy.

What keeps them together: vows, humor, and staying grounded under pressure

Despite the schedule and attention, they kept up real traditions: handwritten letters on anniversaries, a strict no-phones-at-dinner rule, and carving out time for one-on-one moments.

In 2017, they renewed their vows at home in front of just six guests—no photographers, no headlines. When divorce rumors flared in 2018, Victoria’s team publicly denied them, calling it “fake news fueled by social media.“

That same year, they posed with all four kids on the cover of British Vogue, making their statement in their own way.

In 2019, they celebrated their 20th anniversary with a private trip to the Palace of Versailles. In 2021, they shared matching-outfit throwbacks with the same sense of humor that’s kept them connected.

And in October 2023, the world got a fuller picture when Beckham landed on Netflix. The four-part series touched on his football highs and personal lows, but the most moving moments came from his marriage—moments of doubt, support, and commitment.

Then in April 2024, Victoria turned 50. After the party, David gave her a piggyback ride out of the venue.
