David Beckham was born in Leytonstone, East London, in 1975. He was already in Manchester United’s youth academy by 14. By 1992, he’d made his senior debut during a second-round League Cup clash at the Goldstone Ground. Over the next two decades, Beckham’s career took him through five huge clubs and earned him 115 appearances for England. But it all started closer to home.

    Summary:

    • David Beckham’s football career spanned five major clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, with league titles in four different countries.
    • After retiring, Beckham became co-owner of Inter Miami CF, playing an active role in club operations and signing stars like Lionel Messi.
    • His net worth in 2025 is estimated at around $450 million, thanks to smart business deals, endorsements, and his influence in expanding football in the United States.

Beckham grew up in Chingford, a working-class part of northeast London. His dad, “Ted” Beckham a kitchen fitter was also a hardcore Manchester United fan. That loyalty clearly rubbed off.

David’s early obsession with football led him to the Bobby Charlton Soccer School, where he caught the attention of United’s scouts early on. United picked him up from there. Before that, he’d spent a little time training at Tottenham’s schoolboy setup, but the path always pointed north to Old Trafford.

What teams did David Beckham play for?

Beckham’s club career spanned 21 years and featured stints at some of the world’s most iconic teams:

    AC Milan (loan)2009, 2010332
    Paris Saint-Germain2013140
    England (national)1996–200911517

He won league titles in four countries — England, Spain, the United States, and France — a rare achievement among modern footballers.

If Beckham had only played for Manchester United, he’d still be considered a legend. He broke through alongside other names you’ve heard a thousand times — Giggs, Scholes, Neville — the “Class of ’92.” Under Sir Alex Ferguson, that squad dominated.

The 1998–99 season was the peak: Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League — all in the same year. Beckham was central to it. Think back to that outrageous goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon — or the constant flow of inch-perfect crosses to players like Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, and Van Nistelrooy.

By the time he left, he’d played nearly 400 matches for United. The exit was little messy because of his relationship with Ferguson had cooled, and the infamous boot-kicking incident didn’t help. But still — his United years were the foundation for everything that followed.

    Real Madrid (2003–2007)

Beckham joined Real Madrid at the peak of the Galácticos era, lining up alongside Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, and Roberto Carlos. His arrival was a marketing success, but success on the pitch was harder than expected. That changed in his final season. Even after announcing his move to LA Galaxy, Beckham helped Real Madrid win the 2006–07 La Liga title. He turned it around before leaving — playing well and earning some respect back.

Beckham’s 2007 move to LA Galaxy caught a lot of people off guard. At 32, most expected him to stick around Europe a bit longer. But this wasn’t only about the paycheck — it was a smart long-term play.

He saw the chance to grow football in the U.S. and bought into it. Over five seasons in Los Angeles, he gave MLS a serious global boost. And to stay sharp, he headed back to Europe on loan with AC Milan during the 2009 and 2010 offseasons.

    Paris Saint-Germain (2013)

Beckham joined PSG on a five-month deal in early 2013. Even though he only played 14 matches, one of the highlights was off the pitch when he donated his entire salary to a local kids’ charity — specifically, the Hopital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris.

Beckham joined a stacked PSG squad with Zlatan up front, Thiago Silva leading the defense, and Marco Verratti just starting to show what he could do. They won the league that season, and Beckham finished his career with one last trophy.

    What position did Beckham play?

Beckham spent most of his career out on the right, where he built a reputation for deadly crosses, long passes, and those signature free kicks. He wasn’t the fastest player, but he didn’t need to be—his right foot did most of the work. Later in his career, he played a bit deeper in the middle, slowing things down and pulling the strings with his experience

After retiring, Beckham stayed in the sport by launching Inter Miami CF, a Major League Soccer expansion team. The idea stemmed from a unique clause in his original LA Galaxy contract that gave him the right to purchase an MLS franchise at a discounted rate—$25 million. Inter Miami officially began play in 2020.

Beckham has been involved in Inter Miami’s daily work since the start. He helped bring in players like Gonzalo Higuaín, Sergio Busquets, and Lionel Messi in 2023. He’s played a real part in negotiations, stadium planning, and shaping the club’s image. Inter Miami is a project he’s fully invested in.

In 2025, Beckham’s estimated net worth stands around $450 million, with some sources claiming that when combined with his wife Victoria, their total assets could top $500 million. Much of this fortune comes from smart business moves during and after his career.

The MLS deal alone turned out to be a long-term investment win. Buying into Inter Miami at $25 million looks like a bargain now, especially after signing Messi and boosting franchise value. Beckham also capitalized on sponsorship deals with brands like Adidas, Pepsi, and H&M, later consolidating many of these agreements under DB Ventures.

In 2022, he sold 55% of DB Ventures to Authentic Brands Group in a deal reportedly worth $230 million. That gave Beckham a steady stream of income from licensing, partnerships, and product endorsements. He also took part in Qatar’s 2022 World Cup as an ambassador — a role that brought both controversy and cash, with reported earnings between $15 million and $177 million.

    FAQs

How many free kicks did David Beckham score in his career?
Beckham scored roughly 65 goals from direct free kicks during his career, including 18 in the Premier League. That domestic record stood for over 20 years until James Ward-Prowse broke it in 2024. Beckham’s most iconic free kick came in 2001 against Greece, in the dying moments of a World Cup qualifier. That goal sent England to the 2002 tournament and became one of the most memorable strikes in modern English football.

Why did David Beckham get sent off at the 1998 World Cup?
That England-Argentina match is still talked about today. Beckham got fouled by Diego Simeone, and while he was on the ground, he flicked his leg out at him. The referee didn’t hesitate and gave him a straight red card. England ended up losing on penalties, and Beckham took a lot of the blame. It was a brutal time for him—fans and media were harsh—but looking back, he’s said it was a tough lesson that made him mentally stronger.

Who is David Beckham married to, and how many kids does he have?
David’s been married to Victoria Adams—better known as Posh Spice—since 1999. They’re one of those couples that pretty much defined celebrity power couples in the early 2000s. Together, they have four kids: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. The kids all have their own paths—Brooklyn’s into photography and modeling, Romeo’s given football a go, Cruz leans toward music, and Harper’s still growing up. The whole family is often spotted at events, managing to stay pretty grounded despite all the spotlight.
