Viktor Gyökeres: the astonishing numbers at Sporting Lisbon

Viktor Gyökeres didn’t stay in Lisbon long. Just two seasons. But what he did in that time? He scored 97 goals in 102 games, won two league titles, a cup, and turned a €20 million signing into a record-breaking €63.5 million sale to Arsenal.

No long farewell, no drawn-out goodbye. He showed up, scored consistently, and left as Sporting’s greatest forward ever. These are his numbers. Goals, goals, and more goals, a ridiculous scoring streak.

Here’s what Gyökeres put up wearing green and white:

The Deal That Almost Didn’t Happen

The move to Arsenal was a mess. Four offers. Three rejections. One striker waiting in Mallorca, not training with the squad.

It started with Arsenal lowballing Sporting — €55 million plus bonuses. Sporting didn’t even reply. Then came €65M plus €15M. Still no deal. The issue wasn’t just the fee. Sporting didn’t want to pay agent commissions or settle for hard-to-reach bonuses. Meanwhile, Gyökeres was stuck in limbo, officially disciplined by the club, doing personal sessions on an island.

What broke the deadlock? His agent finally dropped the commission demand. That shaved millions off the payout structure, making the final version — €63.5M + €10M in easy targets — more valuable than the bigger offers. Sporting got the cash flow they needed. Arsenal got their man. And Gyökeres, without saying a word, forced one of the most uncomfortable deals of the summer into existence.

Deals like this one are about maximizing value, much like how Bonuses.com ensures you never miss another bonus. By joining their platform, you get access to exclusive offers and promotions from top online casinos and sportsbooks, all curated by their rewards team so you can focus on winning.

Sporting paid €20M plus €4M in bonuses for Gyökeres in 2023. Two years later, they flipped him to Arsenal for €63.5M, plus bonuses that will probably be triggered before the season’s halfway through.

The agent didn’t take a cut. Coventry’s sell-on clause dropped. The end result? Sporting walks away with nearly €60M in pure profit — no side deals, no drama. Well, some drama. But the books are clean.

    Now What?

Gyökeres is gone. Arsenal made it official in July 2025. He’s signed until 2030. By the time Sporting hit preseason, he was already training privately, waiting on the final paperwork. Some Arsenal players were caught mimicking his mask celebration in Singapore. The move was basically done before it was even announced.

He leaves Lisbon with two titles, 97 goals, and no real replacement in sight — at least not immediately. The question now is: who will step into his shoes at Arsenal? With Raheem Sterling leaving the club and Gabriel Jesus still recovering from injuries, many are expecting Gyökeres to be the solution to fill the attacking void.

Arsenal hasn’t won a Premier League title in over 20 years, but with Gyökeres’ ability to consistently score, could this be the missing piece they’ve been searching for? The Gunners have come close in recent years, but the arrival of the Swedish goal machine might finally provide the spark to secure that elusive league title. Time will tell if Gyökeres can deliver, but his track record suggests he’s more than capable of leading Arsenal to new heights.
